In April 2005, Urban Bush Women's Founding Artistic Director Jawole Willa Jo Zollar was recognized by The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a Master of African American Choreography. The citation read: "Urban Bush Women follow in the footsteps of pioneers who devoted themselves to shattering stereotypical notions of what is and is not worthy of being center stage." At times gut-wrenching, sometimes hilarious, always thought-provoking, "Batty Moves" prominently featured in this clip - including its original percussion score - celebrates the female form and the power and eloquence of women who come in all shapes and sizes. if there was ever a company that was about everything that i love in dance, it is this company. I'm sad that I'm a guy and can't be in.
