shouldve went with the 4-2-1 header for the 1500. 4-1 gets more power but its at the top end. the 1500's dont like to get reved too high due to their longer stroke. It also produces more lower RPM torque which is exactly what a 4-2-1 header will do

This is a really clean, and well (re)built MG!

Oh I do. Its a fine engine but there are times when I wish it had more oomph. Its got a datsun 5 speed tranny. It can handle a lot more power than the a-series mill puts out. The one weak link would be the half axle shafts. I've snapped one of those with only 65 horsepower while pulling out of a parking lot.

I sold that Midget about a year ago. It went to a good home and now I am working on Italian cars.
Ciao!

I used a DGV 2 barrel progressive downdraft from Weber. You lose a couple horsepower, but it is virtually maintenance free. All you need is to get the right set of jets in there, have a good shop do it with an analyzer.
Mine reved high because I built it to do that. It required heavy double valve springs, a double timing chain and the right cam. I also had all of the rotating mass balance ASTER the flywheel was lightened. That is why the idle was so lumpy.

I had an old Clymer manual that contained a section in the back on performance tuning. I switched to a Lucas single point "race" distributor from Victoria British and used a hot Lucas coil. Made power deliver more linear than the stock distributor even with the Crane Fireball ignition because it uses a pure mechanical advance. Set the timing at 4K RPM.

Nice. I've got a 71. I love that sound. maybe I should rebuild the engine on mine.

Might sound even better. You should have a 1275 and they rev higher.
