Next Year was better.
Notre had a Great Team That year Notre Dame should had been to a Bowl

RIP Jim Seymour, let the perpetual line shine on yass....

champins of what?

MSU played for the tie, not the Irish. With 1&1/2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, MSU faced a 4th down and 5 yards and elected to punt to the Irish, content to take a tie with the mighty team from South Bend.

He properly pronounced "NO-TRuh" Dame, not "NOter" as people pronounce it now.

If I recall correctly, ND tried a late FG but missed. If that is true, then they did not play for a tie but tried to win it. This despite losing those players.
I honestly felt ND was the Champ that year. But this is a controversy that has never died down in all this time. I suppose this is one of the reasons why we all love this game so much!

@JB5GoIrish it was actually 13 years, just to better boast your argument. 83'-95' 12-0-1. the tie coming in 1994 17-17.

Notre Dame Southern California is historically 1 of the best College Football rivalry's but not quite the same as it used to be.
"Notre Dame makes a statement for the National Championship"....I guess they were too busy to do so against Michigan State a week earlier. They decided to tank the last couple of plays and settle for a tie. Yeah, that's what champions do.

Against MSU, ND had lost their starting Running Back, starting QB, and starting center. Their diabetic backup QB was obviously floundering late in the game, and it became obvious that ND wasn't going to be able to move the ball offensively. Having rallied for the tie, the most prudent thing to do (though not popular with fans of either side) was to try not to lose the game instead screwing the whole thing up trying to win it.
If you watch the entire game, you might see it differently.
