yes of course it is!! you can just go to your local agriculture shop and look for some "onion sets" basically they're just small onions and you plant them just below the soil with there tops pointing up... then again you can plant a sprouting onion from your kitchen and collect seeds off it at the end of the season. that is if it's not genetically modified : )
