Does anyone remember their pre-WRCV days, when they were Philco-owned WPTZ? They became WRCV in 1956, when NBC took posession of the statiion. I am not 100% sure about what Westinghouse's involvement was, except they owned what was originally (and now again) KYW Radio on 1060, which became WRCV radio when Channel 3 changed to those calls as well.
There are some (audio only) sign-ons and -offs from the WRCV era on the TV-Signoffs and Broadcast Pioneers sites. I would presume the test pattern in use in those years had the same layout as was used for the test pattern of New York's Channel 4 during its 1954-60 run as WRCA-TV (with the calls in a black box on the top, the city of license on the left side below that box, the channel number taking up much of the center bullseye, and "A SERVICE OF (RCA)" on the inner lower right quad).
In 1956, NBC, which owned what is now WKYC in Cleveland traded ownership of stations with Westinghouse/KYW. NBC renamed the Philadelphia stations WRCV and Westinghouse renamed the Cleveland stations KYW. In 1965, the FCC and the Supreme Court declared this trade null and void, sending NBC back to Cleveland and Westinghouse back to Philly. NBC sold WKYC radio in 1972 and WKYC TV in 1990.
Of course CBS won't acknowledge any ownership by rival NBC, although on the NBC 10 50th anniversary special, some acknowledgement was given to WCAU's CBS days.

Actually, NBC did own channel 3 from 1956-1965. The full story is on the Wikipedia articles for both KYW-TV and Westlinghouse Broadcasting.

You mean Westinghouse. NBC owned nothing in that market until CBS sold WCAU to them, since Westinghouse already owned KYW prior to buying CBS.
