I found out after publication that this was a hoax (or more to the point, it happened in 2003)
But it's still a cool video, so rather than argue, just enjoy!

Glad to see someone excited about astronomy, but I'm sorry to tell you this is not going to happen. When Mars is on close approach it appears only as a bright red spot in the sky, barely distinguishable from a star, and that is all. If it looked as big as the Moon we would all be in very deep trouble. A telescope will be able to see it in much more detail than usual. 2003 was the last close approach and 2016 will be the next. However, an event such as this has never and will never happen.

mars may have came close enough to be seen be telascope to look as big as the full moon, but mars did NOT come close enough to be seen(that big) by the un-aided eye

Yes, I found out (embarassingly for an amateur astronomer) that fact after I published this. I thought of pulling it, but everyone seems to like it anyway, so why not just enjoy the video?
