Kidnapping has become a big business in Afghanistan. Wealthy Afghans are the targets, as criminal gangs are after ransom money.

At least one businessman is kidnapped every week, according to the Afghan International Chamber of Commerce.

The threat has made many businessmen leave Afghanistan, causing a major drain in wealth.

Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from Kabul.

  • @AYEMAQ listen my friend,i m agreed with ur point, that masood was not in favor US,bcz he knew US will kick him again after using him, it he were alive,us could kick him and his army by force, the point was that US army couldnt enter afg from other parts, so they found way from there, it was tough to beat taliban without buying northern alience.

  • You are making great points and I absolutely agree to some of them. I am not from Panjshir but Masood is just another character and person that I admired. He did some bad things as well but forget that. RIP Masood. Hmmmm I can be a better Muslim if I am not forced to be a Muslim. That is by choice not by force. I hope that makes sense to you...

  • i see in ur favs a video trip 2 panjsher

i take that ur from there and hope u do support the lion of panjshir

if u do now think about it if was alive would he let the invaders rule afghanistan?

as a matter of fact thats why they killed him cuz he would never agree on invading forced coming and stealing our wealth and brainwashing our ppl

  • u say religion should be personal

but Alllah says islam should rule the country

not some dude who is not better then u or me should make law and i have 2 follow his law why?

again democracy majority of ppl push for a law and that is accepted and minority is forced 2 accept that they dont have any choice i guess u dont know taht.

and about they being so ahead well thats what happens when u go attacking countries and stealing there wealth u get rich just like the west .

  • again u see u say religion should be personal matter

in the west the religion is personal matter cuz they dont have laws realy they dont

but islam is a perfect way of life and what do u mean terrorism is defending ur home land is terrorism ?

plz dont be the victim of western propaganda .

Taliban had nothing 2 do with 911 as a matter of fact 911 was an inside job in order 2 attack muslim lands and steal there wealth in the name of democracy .

again u can not force democracy like thy are doing

  • But supporting the Taliban was not a solution either because they supported terrorism... Afghanistan was moving backwards instead of forward. We can not stay within the same ideology as 1400 years or so go. The time has changed, the world has changed. Advancing is very important and mandatory for every society. Taliban did horrible things in that country. You can not simply ignore their wrong doings. Once again, religion should be a personal matter. The government should not be based on religion

  • and plz succces and stability does not come by the support of the kafirs just Allah says in the quran .

    al maeda

    51. O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliyâ' ( protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliyâ' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliyâ', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allâh guides not those people who are the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust).

  • well said its ur choice but we should ask ourselves we are Muslims so why are we Muslims? what does Muslim means submitter submitter 2 what ur well 2 the will of Allah. now quran is for what ? in order for the man kind 2 be guided ? and what about the laws in the quran? u see democracy has laws and quran has laws ? democracy man made law a guy like you mad a law and u have 2 follow it . quran Allah made law and we follow it . so why that man who mad a law for me ? is he better then me? part1
  • Continued:

Believed it or not, I did not know why I was a Muslim or why I believed in this religion until I left Afghanistan. Today, I know why I have the religion and why I am practicing it. No one is pushing me to praise Allah. I am free, it is my personal decision and I truly admire it and can see the beauty of this religion. When I was in Afghanistan, I was a kid and was forced to pray and read the Quran and I hated the religion but today it is my choice and personal responsibility.

  • That is a very sounding response, however; religion should be a personal choice not a government matter. A country or a civilization only and only steps towards success and stability when government and religion are separated. They simply should not be mixed. We also need to remember that not all residents are Muslims, basing the laws based on Sharia and Islamic laws can take away the rights of those that are not Muslims. We simply need Democracy free of all religions.
