I think that she sits on the stool during the second verse to show that the second verse is actually sung at a different time than the first one in the play (if memory serves; It's been years since I saw Boys From Syracuse). It also shows that the girl is in a different mindset at the end (not sure if she's in love at first, and sure later on).

The second verse is sung at a different time. This song is from The Boys From Syracuse. I sang it when my highschool did it.

Actually, it was originally written to be sung this way. The correct term in the industry is "legit" or "head mix".
