FRIDAY THE 13TH - My biggest gripe, I think- even beyond the horrible characters populating this film, beyond the women as blow-up dolls, the guys as jerks- came at the end. I understand suspension of disbelief. I understand the "need" for Jason to pop up out of the water at the end. Though I try, however, I simply can't wrap my head around how they achieved that end. Upon enduring this horrible night, upon watching everyone get slaughtered, upon escaping Jason's lair after being held captive for a month, Whitney and Clay are going to loose the tangled chains around Jason's neck, freeing his mangled body from a woodchipper...then they're going to haul his 200+ body all the way to the lake just to dump him in? This guy- he's just a guy, after all, who killed all those people? They're going to go through all this trouble and destroy the evidence? No...no, they're not. People don't do that. Yes, people do stupid things in horror movies all the time- splitting up, investigating noises, etc- but sometimes, screenwriters need to stop and say "You, know, this is a bit much..." and figure out ways to make the characters' stupidity seem plausible. Even in its own shallow, ridiculous universe, the film has to make sense.

Am I being too hard on it? Maybe. It's just a slasher movie, after all, right? It's Friday the 13th. Jason gets his mask, he kills people. That's what folks want, mission accomplished.

The forthcoming Friday The 13th remake is directed by Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw remake), written by the pair behind Freddy vs Jason, and produced by Michael Bays company Platinum Dunes (who brought us the remakes of Chainsaw, The Hitcher, and Amityville Horror).

Should we be worried its exec produced by Michael Bay, and co-produced by MTV? Probably.

Spoilers ahead

The remake will actually compact the key events of the first three Friday 13th movies. So, after negligent camp councillors let a young Jason drown, his mother comes to Camp Crystal Lake seeking murderous revenge. She is beheaded by a councillor, then Jason rises from the lake to continue her work.

Its also confirmed that Jason will don the burlap sack from part 2, then later the signature hockey mask from part 3. Young Jason Voorhees is being portrayed by Caleb Guss. Who was presumably picked because he looks a bit weird - good job. Platinum Dunes says the make-up is awesome, freaky and true to the original.

Jasons mother, Mrs. Pamela Voorhees, will be played by Nana Visitor, from Deep Space Nine.

Producers say the kills will be in the double digits, and that there will be tons of drinking, smoking weed and having sex. So the intentions seem to be noble at this point. The Friday 13th remake is released simultaneously around the world on Friday 13th, February 2009.

  • Wow...I wish this generation of people wasn't so obsessed with gore and sex. -_- The true originals put these stupid remakes to shame. All these remakes are doing is making kids think that it's cool to have sex/have sexual experience and make them think blood everywhere is scary. These movies are nothing scary in my opinion. I've heard of 5th graders in school now thinking that they're cool because they've 'done it' before. How sad is that? o_O

  • I saw this movie on opening night, I personally loved it, especially how they opened it up. I think it's a great movie.

    -.-

    smfh.

  • the same

  • This is the worst film I've ever seen.

  • no u fag it is his mom was in thhe beggining man

and they dont want his mom to be in it becuase its scary and more mistirous

  • This wasn't a remake, it should have been called a sequel because that what it basically was. It was not a remake of the first film because JASON was NOT in the first film, he didn't start KILLING until the sequel, he showed up in the last seconds of the first one. His MOM was originally the killer. so no this was no remake.

  • Stop raping my childhood classics and replacing it with this type of bull shit.

  • is that camp crystal or somthing

  • Did you even read the description? The movie was intended to compact the key events from the first three, starting with Mrs Voorhees being beheaded, going on to Jason using the sack to cover his face, and then finding the hockey mask.

  • As i explained to the one noob. The best horror films right now are coming out of europe. The french are kicking the shit out of USA in horror right now. There is no care for originality or pleasuring a theatre full of people anymore.. just money. MONEY MONEY MONEY.
