  • barbarian is a zx spectrum game. you mean when i played it on the amiga there was a spectrum inside it?

i think it was probably made for 16 bit machines then converter for 8 bit systems

  • The Spectrum version was published on 1987, the Amiga version was published on 1988.

The original version I guess that I was thought to Commodore 64, but as was usual in that time it was release at the same time that the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad version.

  • if i remember rightly the poster that advertised this game (back in the day) showed wolf from the gladiators as the barbarian with a page 3 girl at his side (not linda lusardi or sam fox but another famous one from that era).

  • She was Maria Whitaker

  • Great game. As you probably, I dunno how many hours I spent playing this.

If you do not mind, I will use this vid in my blog.

    Thanks!!

  • Of course that I don't mind :). Use my video where you want.

  • As an old hardcore coder, i can tell you that, In all platforms this game uses Non-HW sprites, that means this game suits better for ZX or Amstrad.

Probably ZX or Amstrad version is first. Probably same year ported to C64. And later 16 systems.

  • c 64 was my prefered version !! because thats the 1 i owned lol

  • i loved this version. its like they were fighting in the sand dungeons of time..

a great game from the hall of fame

  • Never played this game, as I wasn't into the fighting games like the infamous Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Still the graphics on this were far superior to similar offerings at the time on the good old Speccy 48K! I do remember the Maria Whittaker poster though, with the guy who eventually played Wolf in The Gladiators TV show, Maria helped me to grow upwards!! ;)

  • this is classic game but ancient now..

  • Amazing graphics

  • hilarious

  • I've still got the poster featuring Maria Whittaker wearing not very much at all somewhere. And does anyone have Barbarian 2 where she wearing even less on the cover photo?

  • Aaaah... Las tetas de la Maria Whittaker en la portada... ¿El juego?, muy guapo... Aunque nunca entendi porque era de los de 1200 ptas. Seria por la fundita.

  • I has the essential with the accurate sprites, but the background is killed because of the palette. Still much better than Amiga/ST version that looks very unprofessional even if they are similar. Bad as old school gfx with bilinear filter crap on emulators.

To me, the best version was CPC, because there are no scroller, and the great palette (compare to C64) the sound was brilliant to for such a simple chipsound, some realistic noises and nice bass on the main tune. (which was rare)
