A short film in German and English. It could be used to learn some German phrases, and also demonstrates ways to include Luftkissenfahrzeuge (hovercrafts) and Aale (eels) in a conversation.

Er, do you mean that you speak English, and are you asking me if I speak German?

Ja. Sie können ein bißchen Deutsch verstehen?
(Yes. You can understand a little German?)

Yes, I studied German at school and can understand a little, but can't speak it. I haven't used it for many years and it's become rusty, but it's starting to come back now.

Ich verstehe. Wie heißen Sie?
(I understand. What's your name?)

I'm Jane. What's your name?

Ich heiße Klaus. Woher kommen Sie?
(My name is Klaus. Where are you from?)

I'm from Birmingham. How about you?

Ich komme aus Wien. Als was arbeiten Sie?
(I'm from Vienna. What (work) do you do?)

I'm a librarian, and you?

Ich bin Donauluftkissenfahrzeuggesellschaftskapitän.
(I'm a Danube hovercraft company captain.)

Wow, that's quite a mouth full! Do you enjoy working as a Danube steamship company captain?

Ja, Ich genieße es sehr. Aber die Luftkissenfahrzeuge sind oft voller Aale.
(Yes. I enjoy it very much. But the hovercrafts are often full of eels.)

Yes, I know. Those pesky eels get everywhere.

Ja. Es war nett mit Ihnen zu sprechen. Ich muß an die Luftkissenfahrzeuge nun zurück. Auf wiedersehen
