Question.
A Friend sent me a Scoby months ago... Its been in a baggie in my fridge for about 6-8 mos. It still looks the same, but how can I tell if it still viable for making Kombucha?
AND If I can use it, And dont have the starter tea from a previous batch, What is different in making it?

I keep seeing those large jars on videos. Where do you get those. I have a ton of carboys but those won't allow me to retrieve my scoby's.

I heard that if you put a metal spoon in the glass, (Maybe two or more for that large container) it will diffuse the heat so that the container doesn't break or crack. Where do you get the scoby?

Its a good Idea but its great to stay away from metal as much as you can during the process of making and culturing Kombucha Tea. The tea is heated in a stainless steel pot which is fine but you'd wanna make sure that the spoons in the glass container be stainless steel as well. Kombucha has a way of taking metals out of the system. I got my scoby originally from a friend that made kombucha. You can also get the scoby from me as well if you want.
