The Foundation for Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women (BLSYW) is a non-profit that has partnered with the Baltimore City Public School System to provide a unique educational opportunity to young girls in Baltimore City who are typically underserved and often overlooked. BLSYW currently has 215 students in grades 6 and 7 and will add a grade each year eventually serving over 500 young women in grades 6-12. BLSYW is open to all young women in Baltimore regardless of socio-economic background or academic ability. Centrally located in the heart of downtown Baltimore, BLSYW attracts students from literally every region of our city and, as such, our student population is varied with regard to the neighborhoods they come from, household income, and race.
BLSYW is a college preparatory school with an engaging curriculum that emphasizes math, science and technology, fields in which women are underrepresented and where Maryland needs to cultivate a strong knowledge base and workforce in order to remain competitive in the global marketplace. BLSYW engages students in learning through a strong academic culture and innovative teaching practices which are essential to the development of the whole young woman—emotionally, physically and scholastically. Every student is expected to work hard and achieve - our goal is nothing short of a 100% graduation rate and a 100% college acceptance rate.
