future. Also, with Threat Net Plus, theere is an option to have (for an additional fee) a live sweep from your local TV station's radar added tov your map by clicking a "Sweep" button. This is NOT completely live. You receive an updated image on your map after every sweep of the station's radar with that option. Also, the radar updates every 2.5 minutes with Threat Net Plus, compared to updates every 5 minutes with Mobile Threat Net.

service is paid for monthly to XM to the tune of $55/mo. Unlike the long-term commitment to Threat Net Plus, Mobile Threat Net can be cancelled at anytime.

There are differences between Threat Net plus and Mobile Threat Net. Threat Net Plus has a higher resolution (more colors) radar. Threat Net Plus also has a Rain Total and Snow Depth Map, Local Storm Reports, Text watches and Warnings from NWS, and, a neat feature called FutureScan. FutureScan shows a radar animation 60 minutes into the

entire year up front. However, to get a monthly fee, you are committed to a minimum 3 year contract, and your credit card is automatically billed each month. Your up front cost if you choose this option is $488 (that's the $318 startup fee + $170 for the first month of service.

There is a lesser-expensive alternative called Mobile Threat Net. This is delivered not via an Internet connection, but through an XM satellite receiver. There is an up front charge for the receiver, then the

For those interested, Baron Threat Net Plus is an internet-based service. There is no free or trial version. The software is given to you by Baron Services after you sign a Threat Net Plus contract. The cost of Threat Net Plus is $170 a month, payable anally, plus a $318 start-up fee. In other words, you pay $318 + 170x12 at signup. After that has been paid, the software is sent to you via mail.

Nice package, obviously not for the average Joe, prices are a bit extreme. Unidata IDV may not be as pretty but its free
