This one is a bit different than my other "exercises" in that I can't really call it all an improvisation. The drum beat started off as an improvisation, but I refined it over the course of a half hour. It's my (very) poor man's version of something that Terry Bozzio might do. My left hand was so cramped by the end that I could barely hold on to the stick!

The bass part was also done over the course of six takes, so I can't call that completely improvised, either. However, the guitar part was recorded on a completely separate day and was improvised on the spot.

The guitar is my usual Carvin HF2 Fatboy, Allan Holdsworth model. It's going through a Boss RT-20 rotary speaker pedal and a Roland VG-88 and into my Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4x10 amp as well as a bass stack. The bass went through a similar signal path, with the addition of a Digitech Whammy Pedal. The (mostly) non-effected signal was sent straight to the bass stack, while a +12 pitch shift was sent to the guitar amp.

The video was recorded with a Panasonic G2 micro four thirds camera. I used a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens to capture the guitar, and a Computar 5mm lens (in ext. zoom mode) to capture the bass and drums.
