An instructional video on how to hook up your MacBook Pro or your MacBook to an HD TV. The setup I have for the MacBook will work just fine on a standard TV as well. The Mini DisplayPort cord I used does NOT allow sound to pass, but there are cords that do.

  • Great video, just one simple thing you could've saved money on. You didn't need to buy the jack cord for the sound. You could have plugged up the display cords through the mini display port and the HDMI thing, then you could've done this...

    >System Preferences

    >Sound

    >Play Sound Effects Through:

You're TV should have been right there, and you could've clicked it and it would play through your TV.

Again, great video, just do some research beforehand, saving is always better! :)

  • @PostPranksPlease Thanks for the comment, but if you had read through the previous comments you would note that the cord I purchased does not allow for that, which I also state in the video information. There is a cheaper and more expensive cord, I got the cheaper one that does not allow sound through, it's just the way that cord works. Some research beforehand is always better.

  • @PostPranksPlease Additionally, I have tried exactly what you suggested (which was previously suggested by another user) and it does not work unless I get the Mini DisplayPort cord that I link to (and annotate about) that does allow sound through it.

  • @giddyup523 Wow that's really a shame, well I hope all works out!

  • @PostPranksPlease Yeah, I definitely wish I knew about the cord differences in advance (research would have helped there) but it works fine the way it is, just one more cord to use.

  • Thanks for the demonstrations. So questions, if I purchase a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable "WITH" sound, I don't need to purchase the audio cord you showed in the video right?

  • @leeswifey85 To my understanding, yes. I still use the set-up I described in this video because it works but others have said the cord "with sound" should be all you need (other than an HDMI cord to attach it to, of course).
