Tere Bin - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948-1997). This is the orginal song that was copied by Lata Mangeshkar for the 1999 Bollywood film "Kache Dhaage" starring Manisha Koirala, Ajay Devgan. Before he passed away, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan composed the music for the film. The "TIME" magazine (06 November 2006) lists Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Faisalabad (Lyallpur), Pakistan, in its "60 Years of Asian Heroes" as one of the top 12 artists and thinkers during 1946 and 2006. SPIN magazine listed Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as one of the 50 most influential artists of music in 1998. Nusrat was called "Shahenshah-e-Qawwali" (The Emperor of Qawwali). His father, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and his paternal uncles Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, who were distinguished and legendary musicologists, vocalists and instrumentalists, trained his young son, Nusrat, who was more interested in music than becoming an engineer or a doctor. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan became popular in Europe and the USA when worked with Peter Gabriel on the soundtrack to "The Last Temptation of Christ" in 1985, and with the Canadian musician, Michael Brook, on the albums "Mustt Mustt" in 1990, and the "Night Song" in 1996, reaching millions around the world. "Mustt Mustt" and "Dam Mast Qalandar" were also copied and featured in Bollywood films. He also worked with Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder in 1995 on two songs for the soundtrack to "Dead Man Walking," and contributed to the soundtrack of "Natural Born Killers". According to the "Guinness Book of World Records", Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan holds the world record for the largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist—a total of 125 albums as of 2001. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Nusrat had a six-octave vocal range and could perform at a high-level of intensity for several hours, often lasting an hour or more. Shortly before his 1997 death (only a few days before British Princess Diana died or was killed in a car "accident" in Paris, France), he recorded a song each for two Bollywood films, "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya" (in which he also appeared) and "Kachche Dhaage". Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is responsible for the modern evolution of Qawwali. He popularised the blending of "khayal" singing and techniques with Qawwali. He blended Qawwali music with western styles such as electronic music, inspiring thousands of singers and musicians around the world. That's not the point. This song is always referred to as composed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He had finalied this song to be used for the film and signed on Lata Mangeshkar to sing it before he died. After his death Uttam Singh just recorded the song. Uttam Singh's name does not appear as the composer of this song in the film. In addition, Khan Saheb had composed 6-7 other songs for the film most of which were recorded after his death

In anticipation of your new comments, I already said the due credits are not cited whenever the composition is played and archived on the media platforms (i.e YouTube, links, radio/TV etc) for the current and the future generations of consumers and historians. First up, Lata Mangeshkar is a singer not a composer. So whenever her songs are played, no one from the current or the future generations should think that it is her composition. whenever her songs are played on the media, the composers are always identified. A copy is something where a person takes up someone elses composition and passes off as one owns. If a composer wants some other singer to sing his own song, how can the singer be accused of copying?

In this particular case, there are hardly any refs on Lata Mangeshkar (on YT) following (copying) the original Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK) composition. As a legal eagle and broadcasters, I know that most broadcasters dont give due credit to NFAK. Lata, also known as Anand Ghan, composed music for five films; received the best music director award, and made four films since 1950. So she is a bit more than just a singer.
