After three weeks of fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo, civilians are hurting. For those caught behind rebel-held lines the situation is dire.

Al Jazeera been given exclusive access to the area, in the village of Kiwanja, eastern Congo. We found people who have fled some of the worst violence in recent days, only to end up at UN outposts which they say can't protect them either.

Mohamed Adow has this exclusive report.

  • Having been there and seen what is going on in that country...The UN is not making a difference and comments by the soldiers are we did not come to this coutry too die. They can be killing people next too them and they would turn away. So yes the UN is not doing what they suppose to be doing

  • fukin emperialists n their tools keep classfying and occupying the world.shame on us!!!

  • Natural resources: petroleum, timber, potash, lead, zinc, uranium, copper, phosphates, natural gas, hydropower.-Infoplease website

(London, February 21, 2006) - The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo must act promptly on the recommendations of a Congolese parliamentary investigation that uncovered illegal natural resource exploitation and profiteering from armed conflict, said a leading group of international human rights, environmental and aid organizations today.-HRW website.

  • the wild life never suffer in situations like this, cuz the rebell forces are not after them and wild animals dont need ppls help to live. Anyways why are you soo worried about the wild life? these ppl are going through hell.

  • If most people in the Congo are suffering...Can you just imagine the Wild life & Endangered Mountain Gorillas.

I hope this war in the Congo does not wipe out the few Gorillas that are left...SO SO SAD :~(

  • It's simply time for Africans to sort themselves out. They never seem to learn and money get thrown at them. There should be conditions to money. It's the same old story if it's not war, corruption, bad governance or famine it's aid. Why is this continent the only one that has regressed (according to the UN). They'll blame colonialism when it's their own backwardness then have the nerve to ask for help. Let them rot, either they'll figure it out or they die period.
