For the memory of Gwangju 1980

The title of the backgound music is "임을 위한 행진곡(Imeul wihan Haengjingog)", of which meaning is "March for the beloved". The music was composed and dedicated to a couple who were killed by the rebel troops during Gwangju Democratic Movement in the year of 1980.

Yes In a prior uprising in Busan, the marines did not fire but showed restraint despite the demonstrators using violence. The military dictators should have just sealed off the area ,withdraw all military and police from Gwangju and asked the UN to intervene so that Gwangju could determine its own fate via a UN-monitored referendum.

There were no pro-North slogans and the demonstrators warned North Korea not to use the situation for their own purpose. Actually suspicious figures were caught and turned in to the military. They used arms to protect themselves and were military reserves so their use of weapons is legitimate(first one falls into the situation of 위법성 조각사유)

The people in Gwangju first thought that the US carrier was sent there to help them but it turned out otherwise. This was the turning point;after that, the Korean progressives turned to be strong anti-American. It should be noted that the progressives before Generation 386 have strong US ties ,especially the feminists.

May 18th is a powerful film, it is a must see by Americans for a preview of what may come in America. When Citizens allow their National Government to get out of control, this is what happens. Citizens around the world must demand that all hostilities cease, and the people must retake control of EVERY GOVERNMENT around the world, least events like this continue to happen. Only then will their souls be allowed to Rest In Peace !

@baljin21 숱한 비겁한 사람들이였을지도 모르죠 믿고싶지않았을수도.. 그런일은 세계사에 종종 일어나는일이기도. 우린 그냥 무임 승차에 익숙한 사람들 일지도 모릅니다 허나 희망은 사람들에게 다시 걸어야겠지요. 다수의 기성인들과 달리 돌려보던 비디오는 그후 수많은 이들을 분신과 투신으로 매몰았습니다. 기억하지못하는 역사는 다시 되풀이되어 우리의 가슴을 후비겠지요. 우리내부 혹은 외부 문제에 있어 우린 너무 비겁한 사람들입니다. 우리만의 실용인 이미 대한민국 시작부터였죠.. 조선인 최초의 박사 이승만 또한 3일천하의 우여곡절이 많은 청일전쟁후 다시귀국한 서재필 배재학당에서 민주주의와 개신교를 받아들였지만 결국그는 훗날 귀국후 권력을 향한 야만인이 되고 말았습니다. 우리의 뒤틀린 역사는 이미 건국부터 삐그덕 거렸던것이 아닐지... 남들이 세겨놓은 민주주의말고 진짜 민주주의가 뭔지 박터지도록 고민해본적이 사실상 없는 나라사람들아닐까 생각됩니다. 언젠가 깨어나길 빌며.

Were the soldiers who perpetuated the massacre ever punished? I know Jeon was arrested and tried, but what about the cockroaches of human beings (the soldiers) who fired on their own people? I don't care if they were following orders. They are cowards worthy of no dignity or value.

The democrasy in Korea was not easily gained. Although Guangju struggle seem to have been failed, because of their sacrifice, after 7 years, at last, there could be June 10 struggle which overthrown dictatorship.
