If only basketball was exciting today as it was back then.. All the attention seems to focus on 3 point shooters and show off dunkers.

@BlanknWhite "Lakers got rid of Shaq because of his age, they wanted to build around up and coming Kobe for the franchise and that was it."
Very true.
But Shaq was 380 lbs in 2003; that year he was fat, undeducated, etc... But in general, you're right: Shaq kept himself in pretty decent shape and worked hard enough to be an all-time great.
The comparison of Shaq at two different points in his career was related to my debate w/ another poster. You'd have to read both our comments to get it

@MikeyIV I remember that series. Lakers got rolled. Ouch. That was a couple years before Kobe was really a star player, but the Jazz were a great team then... Stockton and Malone get much respect from me. Both tremendous all-time greats who managed to co-exist so well for 15+ years
-
@senjahcore Yea. Obviously they didn't have the same success as those lakers. But Shaq was just too dominant for the NBA at that time. He was a freak of nature. But don't forget Malone and Stockton swept Shaq and Kobe in 98! You gotta give them the respect they deserve.

@MikeyIV I disagree about Kobe & Shaq being a duo but I see where you're coming from. They contributed less directly to each other's success than Mailman and Stockton. True enough.
"You can't compare them." Yes, I can. I did.
But it's definitely somehwt apples (SG-C) vs. oranges (PG-PF), you have a good point

@senjahcore 2 completely different teams dude. And Kobe and Shaq didn't have the same team work as Malone and Stockton. Shaq carried most of the load and was just too strong for all the other centers. He was too dominant. I don't even consider them a duo really. Individually, they were 4 completely different players. You can't compare them. Malone is arguably the greatest PF. Stockton is arguably the greatest PG. All 4 of them were arugably the most dominant at their positions at one time.

you call that weak era??
-
@The19paul68 how old are you?

Really loved those fans back in the 90's compared to 20's I don't know (SMH) :(. It's so fucking boring.
i wish they had a championship ring

And to think, Malone and Stockton did all this without the benefit of traveling, while playing against players who actually played defense, without being babied by the officials like the stars of today are.
