My second Let's play Civilization 5 video series focuses on military conquests in the ancient, classical and modern eras. Part One shows early exploration and expansion, a sneak attack by our neighbour and, ultimately, his demise.

  • Man... this is the problem with CIV 5. The AI is completely inept at combat. He went from completely catching you off guard with a nice surprise attack and a much larger army, to being totally wiped out in what... like 20 turns? Jesus

  • @mooseclamps True, although I have years of experience in Panzer General as well as a few months in CIV5. On top of that, Darius didn't have iron. I was surprised he attacked in the first place. My 13str legions vs his 6 str warriors isn't really a challenge. Combat AI still needs a lot of work, but mostly in the ranged units section.

  • Thanks for the videos. I really enjoy them. Although I would have built the national college earlier instead of another legion/ballista because Darius was pretty weak.

  • @FunLion Well, when doing let's plays it's always "better safe than sorry" :)

  • I know you're thinking of the long-term, but why not use the insta-heal promotion during the battle?

  • @searanox I do, but only I have no other choice. I used it twice later in this game.

A puppet state doesn't give as much unhapiness as a occupied city, so it doesn't slow down an empire in terms of production, food or gold as much as an occupied or a razed city

You can counter this with a corthouse but it takes a long time to finish if the city is very small and you need mathematics before

  • Why would make a puppet state? I don't get it ><

  • I noticed that you were building roads towards future city sites. Isn't it better to build a road to a city only when it's at a good population level to at least break even on the road's maintenance?

  • If the AI was smart he would have burned down your Iron. He was sitting right on top of it.

  • Wow you're really good at this game! I'm impressed! You took out his capital like it was nothing, and on a harder difficulty :O

  • I expected these to be boring considering how slow Civ5 is overall; but with your educational commentating they are actually quite interesting. Good work.
