s/y Stars & Stripes 87 won the trials to select the challenger and went on to defeat the Australian defender Kookaburra III by 4 races to nil in the 1987 America's Cup to win the cup back for the USA.
@Iwastherein1969 correct me if im wrong, but that vessel is S/S US-56 - which was in for scheduled maintenance... US-55* is the one that faced the aussies back in the day. the true cup holder was prolly on her mooring. And CaptainMateo.. next time ask before you jump on our boat n start touching things!!! cheers
this old gal was a 'friggn rocket' when the Fremantle Doctor came calling in the 1986 America's cup.....the greatest straight-line speed in the history of 12 meter yacht racing.....I remember in 1986, the Aussies would try to engage Stars n' Stripes in a tacking dual right out of the start and Connor just put this baby girl on a straight course to the lay line and said "catch me if you can, boys"...she was NEVER beat to the first mark up wind.....Higher, faster, straighter ...what a boat
