@krayzeejojo I'm not saying what I would or would not have done in that situation, nor am I the judge of what other people did or didn't do, I'm only saying that to a certain extent, I know what they did do. I did 3 years in prison myself, 1 year in supermax, I know a bit about it. I've talked to 15 year old kids in Poland with relatives in the camps. They said most people would do absolutely anything just to stay alive one more day.

@clintonearlwalker You've made some valid points, but try to understand that this was a time and place where the sense of logic was completely loss to utter madness. Not all prisoners could be expected to think 100% clearly, especially since the Nazis have psyched them out into giving these people a life-or-death situation. That's all I'm getting at.

@krayzeejojo That was up to the individual. There were many cases of people making both choices. There were many "Kapos" that beat and tortured other Jewish inmates, in many instances worse than the Nazi's. On the other hand, there were many cases of people refusing to help the Nazi's in any way even if it meant their own death. I've read of people jumping alive into cremation pits. Rudolph Hoess said Jehovah's Witness's, nearly to a person resisted, he had them executed.

VERY powerful and moving. Thank you VERY much for sharing this excerpt with us; I'm going to have to go looking for this film to take out of the library or to rent - especially after having SHOAH this year. Miss Strasberg's acting is outstanding, too (well, after all, she was an experienced pro by now, having done a great deal of stage, TV, and movie work before this, including the premiere Broadway production of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, in which she played Anne Frank).
