Bio:
Tidal Wave was formed in 1992 by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist The Lonely Guy aka Doug MacDonald.
A good Scotsman, MacDonald did not want to pay for a "musicians wanted" ad in the local entertainment weekly so he chose instead to train two of his fellow bag-boys at a Cambridge market to play instruments. With nightly rehearsals Crazy L'eggs (Scott Johnson) and Cuddles (Darren Hart) were soon quite proficient at a unique style of music that melded surf, punk, British Invasion and rockabilly influences.
About a year in Whiskas (Mike Varraso) replaced Cuddles on drums as the band continued to play packed houses in New England and the Tri-State area, opening for such acts as The Goo Goo Dolls.
Back home in Boston Tidal Wave was becoming infamous for their rowdy following and Lonely Guy's booze-fueled antics on-stage. Banned from The Middle East Club they released the single "I Can't Play The Middle East" (Junk-a-Billy) in 1994.
The second half of the 90s saw the band plagued with personnel changes (in one lineup Lonely Guy fronted the band from behind a drum kit!) but they did manage to release their first CD "Lonely Guy and The Tidal Waves" (Najarian).
The last edition of the band featured MacDonald, Varraso and bassist Dennis Heraty. In 2003 they changed their name to Granite Ave and in 2005 they played their last show ever at Dee Dee's in Quincy.
