The thing is, we really needed this guy during the financial meltdown. He would've had the guts and the wisdom to let poorly run firms go out of business, instead of wasting taxpayer money to let the government take over the worthless companies and give them to the unions.
Government regulation of the housing market is what got us into this mess. Taking more of the poision will not help. It is the American people that make this economy great, not the "Big government Prayer of the Dead."
Very astute. When someone is no longer useful, and unlikely to become more useful in the future, the most compassionate thing to do is FIRE them. That way you aren't stringing them along, and they have the opportunity to go out and find something where they ARE useful. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness, and if you keep them when you really don't need them... you're just stringing them along and denying them that right.
Garfield is a big part of what's wrong with America today. As Gregory Peck mentioned in his speech, people like Mr. Garfield provide nothing of value to society. People like the man Peck protrays in this film are the people who built America into a superpower and NOT Garfield. Long-term vision (Peck) trumps short-term satisfaction/quick bucks (Garfield) anyway. The more Mr. Garfield's slither their way into our economy the faster America will continue down the toilet.
WTF are you talking about? You might well be right with your opinion, but it has nothing to do with this video. Peck's attempt to sell cable is equivalant to selling videotapes instead of dvd's. No-one will buy his product, because no-one wants or needs it.
Garfield IS looking at the long-term, or at least the realistic long-term. More money for the shareholders, the workers can get better jobs with functioning company's and the factory can be used productively by other businesses.
You obviously listened to Devito's speech, but you didn't HEAR a word he said. I'm a business man and he is 100% right. These greedy companies screwed over their investors for years and bled the shareholders dry (see Gordon Gekkos speech in "Wallstreet"). Then, when new technology or a better way comes along, they don't have the brains or the guts to change with the times. Wait a few more years until all newspaper companies are gone then you'll see what I mean. It's a digital world.

deregulation got the housing market to where it is at today
as the financial and credit market
less government is what got us where wwe are
it is not the solution to getting us out of it
