Seventy-fourth video. Well, I really hate when Youtube decides to update itself; this SHOULD'VE been uploaded at 8 pm yesterday with the following description and set to private until today. The description is pretty important this time, too; please read!

Anyway, this is a very special composition (second time using Mario Paint Composer for a graded assignment!) that serves as my final project for my first class in the scholars' program, titled How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci. According to an article on Cracked.com titled "7 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs Hidden in Famous Works of Art," there's a hidden melody in da Vinci's painting of The Last Supper. By drawing five horizontal lines and reading from right to left (as da Vinci wrote), one can discover that the hands and buns in the original painting line up like notes. This brianLED Composition, made in Mario Paint Composer and titled "The Last Supper," is based off of that pattern; it's played by the cars at the beginning of the video or you can see it for yourself here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY7TZc079go

I don't really know what to say about this one -- it's somewhat progressive in that it has four entirely different themes which are very loosely linked together though somewhat related. The first four text files follow the Da Vinci pattern very specifically (mostly in the hearts, then in the stars). The entire Da Vinci pattern is finished within the first six text files (two themes), and after that I deviated away from it completely. The third theme is fairly aggressive while the fourth is quite tranquil -- my personal favorite text file is the 10th! It's also my first time making an original composition with some (not quite a semester's worth) knowledge in music theory! I didn't consciously follow/disobey any of the conventions though I could tell what I was doing at least some of the time. Ever since learning what they were, I discovered I've always really liked minor seventh chords!

It's also the first time I've recorded for myself in a little while! (Thanks to Pokesonic for being willing) At first, MPC was acting really slow on the Unversity's computer, even after I adjusted the priority. Fortunately, the lag was consistent; I had to bump up the tempo on a few text files to cover for the lag, but the recording was satisfying regardlessly. Thanks for the continued support, and hope you all enjoy!

  • I feel as though one should stand in front of the last supper painting and notice that hidden music, then pull out an ocarina, and learn "Da Vinci's echo". Then a hidden temple door opens. The dungeon's weapon, some form of real life hookshot Da Vinci himself created.

  • spent ages searching for the original to show to someone... this will have to do.

  • Da vinci in mario paint......appropriate :D

  • so glad i discovered this video. you really should post more videos of your own compositions, although dont force yourself! this song makes me feel so happy :_)

  • haha nice job

  • I believe you wrote all video game music before 1997.

  • You know whats hilarious? the linked video is copyrighted. wtf?

  • Imagine if this were made for a full orchestra! THIS WOULD BE SO AMAZING! Then again, making actual sheet music would be a pain... XD

  • @Zazoo1995 It's funny you mention that, because I instantly thought of the fact that right after the last supper, Jesus had to sacrifice himself...

  • @wikieditspam That's exactly what it is. Mario Paint was a release title for the SNES. It came with a PC style mouse that plugged into your SNES and allowed you to make pictures and assorted other things, including a Composer program that used different Nintendo symbols for different "instruments". The only way, that I know of, to use it and record for PC is to use an emulator/rom setup.
