Really cool ass birds very affectionate, i made good friends with one when i was stationed in Colombia for the military, i pampered so much, when it was time to leave i wanted to adopt it and take it back home, but it didn't work out. A couple weeks after, i received notice that it perished, it kept calling my name, then stopped eating all together, it gets to show you these little creatures can develop strong feelings for their masters.. =(

Its so sad that people Get these Beautiful Birds and have no clue on how to care for them. A few months ago i knew next to nothing Macaws and Parrots in General. I have since made friends with a few birds from qrpr.org. Quail Ridge Parrot Rescue is a Local Rescue in Riverside county CA. For those of you wanting to get to know how these Birds are like, learn about thiem, Please check in to Rescue in your area. The birds there need you, they need your support, they need you Love. Thanks.

@cygnus875 destructive, I don't know, but demanding, loud and messy - that's true. I had one that I kept on the front porch (in FL) and when he heard me get up in the AM it would scream bloody loud for attention. Very annoying. I had to give it up to move to WY. I would give anything to hear it scream now.

@ShilohNative The problem is that there are more than 22 million parrots in US homes. Many come from breeders and go to people who don't know what they are getting into. Then the end up at rescues like the one I volunteer at... if they are lucky. If you want a bird and are ready to take on the responsibility, why not go the extra step and help one that needs a home?

@mattxr2i Do Do Do get a bird from a breeder (abandoned birds are {truly} there but their keepers seem to think they are gawd ) A good breeder will provide you with a bird who is human friendly along with the help and guidance to become the best Mom or Dad you can be to you feathered family member.

If you are considering getting a bird, you absolutly must do research. Macaws take time, dedication, patience, and as previously said they are truely a 3 year old in their mindset. They need proper nutrition, socialization, well-set boundaries, etc. These aren't "buy-on-impulse" animals, you're signing up for a good 50+ years of caring for them. If you're prepared for birds, I'd advise starting small- budgies, linnies- Just know what you're getting into beforehand.
how much for a full price. if not how much for adopted price. i really want one. are they difficult to care for. if so i will buy something else. how do they talk. i dont get it

@TheTurtlefreak123 They are difficult to care for properly. If you would not adopt a destructive, demanding, loud, messy 3 year old that will never grow up, don't get a macaw. That is why so many end up in shelters.

@TheTurtlefreak123 Also, a baby would cost $2500-$3000, but it would be at least another $1000 to get a cage big enough and another $300+ for a play stand. They need a lot of toys which are expensive and don't last long, and their diet and vet care are expensive as well. If you have never had a macaw before a shelter will not likely let you adopt one.

how much was this parrot.
TheTurtlefreak123 1 year ago
@TheTurtlefreak123 We adopted him so he was no where near full price. They usually go for a few thousand from a breeder but there are so many in shelters that need homes. Both of my macaws are adopted.
