Go read about socialism online, a limit of 500 character is not enough to describe it properly. But for your question, no the government does not control what your job will be and does not watch what you do (unless they have reasons to think you're a terrorist/criminal/etc. but then again even the U.S does that and for good reason). Freedom is very important under socialism so people who say its a control freak government dont know what they're talking about. Go read about it.

@Warrior536 Exactly you said it yourself, Socialism or whatever you wanna call it FAILS every time. There is no Utopian country because it doesn't exist. Blame it all on Capitalism but look at Socialist countries or claim to be and you'll see we're not that bad compared to them.

What example do you have? Socialism was never properly implemented, it was either turned into communism, nazism or fascism. True socialism was never ever implented. So what alternative do you suggest? Capitalism, a system that has been shown and that still is shown right now that it doesnt work. Capitalism brought the economic crisis, capitalism encourage poverty by focusing money on a few individual who ends up owning a large chunk of the country's ressources.
