Thanks for sharing your thoughts. There are a lot of great organizations working on issues related to dams and rivers in the U.S., but we specialize in drawing the larger connections that cross boundaries and borders. The whole world is our home -- so yes, we do concentrate on our problems at home

Its not all about the needs of the people. The construction of this dam will result in the extinction of potentially hundreds of animals species....is it right to exterminate other life for our gain? Those people who may not have electricity are not going to die because of it. There are other ways to generate electricity that wont result in the loss of animals...they may not be as productive as this dam may be but at least the energy would be generated in an ethical way.

We Brazilians want the Amazon preservation because we care about the environment, we respect the Indians and we believe that in the future our forest preserved will be worth a lot of money. However if we decide to destroy 100% of the Amazon and kill all our Indians. That is our right because the forest and the Indians are ours! Fuck the opinion of other countries and the UN! For those countries that do not like that, we have about 1 million soldiers and some nuclear weapons waiting for them!

It is important to clarify some things. About 70% of the Brazilian Amazon is still covered by forests. Brazil has the largest indigenous reserves in the world and big national parks where there is a total preservation of ecosystems. Unfortunately only we Brazilians know this because Google does not give this information to the world (mainly the Google map).

hey guys has anyone considered the 22 million Brazilian homes in need of electricity, for which this dam will provide?has anyone considered the population boom Brazil is experiencing, which will increase electricity demand by 3.6% annually?

Has anyone considered that the 71 wind farms planned for construction will only provide 1805MW of energy, compared to 11000MW from this dam alone?this isn't a one sided issue.Weaver may know a lot about the negative impacts, but she ignores the positive ones.

Why don't they just invest in wind and solar energy which have less social, environmental and economic impacts
