This machine is a small PCB sized milling and drilling machine. The spindle is custom built and uses a scaled down version of an R8 collet. It will be an automatic tool changing spindle once I get the tool rack made. The spindle runs at 24,000 RPM. Rapids of the machine are only 600 IPM at this time as I only have a 35 volt power supply for the steppers.

General specs are:
Accepts 1/8" shank tools
24,000 RPM spindle
20 tool capactity
Auto tool length measuring
9.5" X travel
15.5" Y travel
3.5" Z travel
600 IPM rapid rates
.0005" resolution (Min. increment)
Currently running on MACH3 software

  • hey where did you get the spindle from?

  • @565Customz

The spindle on this machine was made by me - it is a DIY spindle

  • What is the technical term for those wire guides, and where did you get them?

  • They are called Energy Chains, check on ebay as sometimes you can get a good deal

  • What's the setup for the x-axis. I think I see two linear ways above each other?

    Do you use a ballscrew?

  • The X axis (axis on the bridge) used linear rails (IKO). The other two axes use bishop wisecarver rails. The Z axis uses a ball screw and the X and Y axis use a belt drive.

  • Nice

  • nice speed, cool sounds : )

is it just a parallel port stepper that requires a realtime os?

  • Nice!

  • that's pretty incredible resolution... seems professionaly constructed.. how did you come up with the plan, what was total BOM, and do you have more samples of it working?

  • I love the noise of the stepper motors!

  • ONLY 600 IPM ?????

  • great video great machine

  • This is a super cool mini machine!! Super fast!!

  • Really nice CNC. What motors did you use?

  • @RIAMCNC nice! ive been trying to figure out how to build a 20ish thousand rpm spindle, but i want to use air bearings...and im not having much luck
