Activision Classics - Dragster (Straight)

It took me a while to figure out how to play Dragster. I did not know how to get going/shift gear and kept blowing out my engine as a result. It wasn't until I had referred to the trusty manual that I had finally figured out to cluch and shift with the left directional buttons. I find this game to be quite nice, but not quite up there.

In Dragster, you can either race across the track for best time or to try to beat your opponent to the end of the screen. There are up to four gears to shift up to. If your car is given too much gas, it'll be blown out.

A single one-player race game is shown. I had managed to shown a four gears spaced together nicely to show what they are like.

@covrace very interesting. i use the same method, revving the engine then dropping the clutch, you then need to tap your controller to the left to get the engine revs up quicker as you go down track, to much tapping and the engine will blow!!! i spent hours on this as a young fella!

@quartermilesmile heard the world record was and still is 5.51. hat is interesting is david crane, the game's designer programmed a computer back in the day to play dragster and perform ''the perfect race''. He got a time of 5.54. Then this guy claims to get a 5.51. he beat the computer by holding the clutch in during the countdown, thus getting off the line faster. 5.64 is VERY nice. my best, so far, is 5.97

lol that so funny i still have this game on atari 2600 like u need to change gears quicker with out blowing the engine had hours of fun on this game

Ahh, a drift racing game! This game easily outdates Zero IV Champ too!
