I'm trying to get better at Ableton Live, as well as bass. I discovered that you can edit video in Ableton so I mixed a few bass clips from one jam together. Added some cheesy drums, keys and automated fx, voila rough space bass disco psychedelic funk track

Disclaimer:
Rather than posting full mixed songs I am posting more blog like videos. That way I can hopefully see and hear progress over the course of time.
Gear Used:

Bass: Warwick Thumb Bolt on 5

Compressor: Really Nice Compressor or RNC
Audio Card: Emu 1616 card bus
Recording Application: Ableton Live 8
Screen Capture Software: Jing (the best in my opinion)

Thanks for watching and listening.

  • Hi, watched few your videos, you're playing nice, especially on fretless ;) I got question about recording audio & video. What software do you use to capture both video and audio at same time ? Does Ableton do that magic or you capture video separatly and then mix together ?

  • @evilek

    Thanks for watching!

I wish ableton did that magic, it does a lot but it doesn't capture yet.

I record on a camera at the same time as to my comp into ableton. Then I have to synch the audio with the video. If you match the audio with video you can bring it into ableton and even time stretch it, edit regions and quantize, some pretty trippy effects can be acheived, just can't reverse the video :)

There are many different ways to go about recording but I'd highly recommend ableton

  • funky as **** dude! is this through midi or straight audio into Ableton?

  • @big0me

One day I'll get a midi converter, for now it's just straight into ableton. Still lots can be done, I'm always learning new tricks, very robust program!

    Thanks for watching!

  • i really love that! wished i could get ableton to record my guitar.

  • @TheVincentPROduction

No audio card? You can always import an mp4 from a camera or minidisc. Or try a fastrack by m-audio, affordable usb audio device. These days I'm using a mackie onyx, it's a mixer and audio card in one.

    Thanks for watching!
