imagine these wheels with spokes. I bet one of the those guys would be stabbed with them.

@tdriftking88 alright several people have replied. thanks for answering my question. I feel like the motorized bike is kind of restrictive and while those final laps are interesting to watch, would seem nice for a race to be one of "cat and mouse"
-
@tdriftking88 its basically:
1) to keep the pace high and steady
2) to stop riders trying to form breakaways
3) to create a better show so that when it turns off the cyclists arent tired and they can sprint
-
@tdriftking88 he sets the pace at the start xD
-
@ITsupportian But is it possible that some racers want to go faster? And also, isn't it a strategy to not be first and stay behind another racer? I don't see why there is such a need for the guy to be in the front for others to drift behind.
-
@tdriftking88 because of wind.... He blocks the wind for the racer in the front, it wouldn't be fair if the leader gets all the wind.
-
@gangsta287 he is like start gate for struggle. Keirin is Javanese invented traditional racing on velodromes like horse races...and instead of motorbike they traditionally uses bicycle also as other riders. This leader slowly increases speed and then suddenly goes of the track and fight starts... some 3...4 laps remains. Keirin is most extreme discipline in trackcycling.

You see Hoy looking behind, seeing the guy coming, and going for that gap!

@opmike343 there's a wikipedia section on Keirin too.. ,it's in the google search..

I know nothing about this sport. Why was there a guy in front of them on that red motorized bike?
