A short video tutorial for both ShapeWriter Keyboard, an android system wide input method, and ShapeWriter WritingPad, a standalone notepad application powered by ShapeWriter. Both are coming soon to Android Market. ShapeWriter, a winner of Android Developer Challenge 1 and many other awards, is a text input method based on the gesture keyboard research pioneered at the IBM Almaden Research Center, formally known as SHARK shorthand.

It is not possible to make ShapeWriter default on the iPhone. Apple iPhone SDK won't allow that. So ShapeWriter has to be written as an application, available in the App Store since 2007. With the Pro version one can press a few buttons to send/reply email or send SMS text, or do copy and paste. Until Apple opens its API or licenses it, that is best possible.

It's been developed for longer and has a more intuitive way of typing. For example, on swype you have squiggle to do double letter words like soon, on shapewriter you do not.

After using Swype for about two weeks and then switching a day ago to Shapewriter I clearly like Shapewriter better. For me it's faster and just seems smoother somehow. But the main thing is it's supported; I was using the Swype beta but I feel like they weren't really interested in developing there app for consumers. The beta kept needing to be completely removed and reinstalled after a restart. Give Shapewriter a chance!!
Much happier with Shapewriter.
