George Carlin - Religion is bullshit.

I just demonstrated its philosophical absurdity; if he means Christianity, then he should have said Christianity, he didn't, he said 'religion'. To say that 'religion' x is p, therefore all 'religions' are p is sophism, the antithesis to logic.

Any good logician would pick that apart if that were a serious proposition, which is why I said it's hilarious -- in the view-point of comedy.

Hearing the message of Christ is not the same as following the message of Christ, that is what a hypocrite is. The only way you can know that it is true is if you actually practice what you learn, that is the only thing that proves that it is real. I recommend the Bhagadvad Gita and not the bible because it goes in depth on exactly what to do. But you would probably need a guru to know exactly what everything means especially if you don't have much life experience.

People hear and like the message of God that is why they are attracted to it. But most if not all churches preach what they "think" is truth and not the truth or at least not enough of the truth. For example, preaching about Revelations doesn't teach you anything it just creates fear so it is pointless.

No I am not religious. Religion and God are not the same thing. The bible was not written by Jesus is was written by "Disciples". Whether you believe God exists or not doesn't matter to me, it is your loss, there is only good that comes out of it. But first you need to gain spiritual knowledge(knowledge of God) then apply it without hypocracy. Then you will know and understand God. You need a pure(Sinless) heart.

The answer to my question "how could they stop" is to overcome your own desires, lust, and greed. Self Control is Godliness. If your addicted to these "pleasures" that don't do you or anybody else any real good then the addictions are in control of you your not in control of yourself. That is the meaning behind Sin, you become a slave without knowing it and you suffer and you create suffering for others.

What Carlin says is common sense if you actually follow the teachings of Jesus without being a hyporcrite like he said.  Pointing it out and acting foolishly doesn't help get rid of the problem. The problem is people in power are also selfish and greedy(Sinful) like Carlin. Carlin is just helping spread the problem by creating hateful ignorant people. The real solution is to stop supporting them but Carlin and others love the crap that gov't sells such as alcohol how could they stop?
