Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif let's you into the operating room and explains how and why a turbinoplasty is performed. His patient is a young female whom he is also performing a tertiary revision rhinoplasty procedure on.

Turbinoplasty is a procedure to reduce or shrink the nasal turbinates or mucous membranes. The turbinates provide humidity to the air you breathe. A deviated septum is often the cause of excessive turbinate growth as the try to compensate for the extra space caused by the deviation. When the deviation is corrected during a septoplasty procedure, the overgrown turbinates need to be reduced or they will cause nasal obstruction.
