The Twilights were a successful Australian band during the late 60s. This clip is for their 1967 hit single 'Cathy Come Home'.

The lead singer is Glenn Shorrock who later went on to be the lead singer of the Little River Band.

As well as performing original music like this, they also performed many covers of English bands during their live concerts including songs by the Beatles.

They had a friend who worked with an airline who bought over the latest records weeks before official Australian release. They would then learn the songs and be performing them live a few days later.

The Twilights even performed the entire Sgt Pepper album live, in order from start to finish, two months before Australian release. This was something even the Beatles were unable to do.

EMI records demanded the Twilights stop fearing their excellent performance would mar record sales when the Beatles album was finally released.

  • @rwells47 This is one of the great Australian pop songs of the 1960s ... but it never gets much credit in all the write-ups etc about Oz music.

  • Has anyone heard/seen a clip of The Twilights song YOUNG GIRL it was recorded at Abbey road Studios. It wa their best song of this period, but rarely heard.

  • It sounds like a sitar happening in this song as well. Awesome classic aussie rock.

  • How many Bands was Glenn the head of...???? Mississippi,LRB and countless others...

  • that lead riff rocks!..

  • Guys, have a good listen..That rhythm section deserves a knighthood....they are VERY good.

  • My gosh, what a great promo film/video for 1967. Almost like a video from the '80s or the early '90s with the camera angles and focusing on the elderly people in the audience getting up and dancing around (you saw scenes like that alot in '80s vids). Anyways, great song, and of course the first place I heard this was on the "Nuggetts II" box set.

  • Certainly brings a tear to the eye.....great days {daze?} now passed. An excellent group, and excellent song writer Terry. Loved it, thanks for sharing.
