This spring's extraordinary weather (remember those 80s in March?) prompted early blooms and many phone calls to UWM Distinguished Professor of Geography Mark D. Schwartz, including interview requests from the New York Times and National Public Radio.
Schwartz is one of the country's most respected phenologists. Don't worry if you don't know what that is; he didn't always himself. In this video, Schwartz explains his work from his local lab -- his backyard.
If you'd like to help Schwartz and the USA National Phenology Network (which he co-founded) track the onset of spring across the country, check out http://www.usanpn.org/ and click on the "Nature's Notebook" link.
