2008 Battle on the Bay OPA Patchogue

The Battle on the Bay, Great South Bay Patchogue, NY Was a logistical disaster.

Yet again some Patchogue residents received a letter to inform them that Patchogue is hosting another big event at Shorefront park.
The letter, was a bit patronizing and most inaccurate, as it turns out.
The letter outlined street closings and NO PARKING rules for Saturday and Sunday.

The village is a "sponsor" of this event. Sponsor application indicates the lowest amount paid for sponsorship is $2,500 The village was above this level of sponsorship on the Great south bay racing llc website. The producers had also rented space at the park to vendors.

Is this a proper and ethical use of a public park?

The letter said no Parking from 8am to 6pm, I guess that was no parking for residents, obviously many vehicles are parked on the street.

Could an ambulance or fire truck get through here? If the no parking rule were enforced there would be room for emergency vehicles to pass.

This is a very intelligent post. Everyone here has valid comments. At first sight of this video, I was prepared to read a blood bath, mud slinging sort of post. As a race fan, I must say... If it WERE in my backyard, I think I can put up with the event for 3 days, for the amount of money that the crowd pumps into Patchogue... But it's NOT me having to deal with it. We are here again this year... Be safe, and EVERYONE have a great weekend!!! God Bless!!!!

Patchogue a great place to live if you're a renter or a non-taxpayer. You won't see too many residents because we are at work to pay our $2,300 a month mortgage,12,000 dollar a year tax bill,$300.00 a month electric bills $3,500 a year heating bill + grocery, insurance and home maintenance.Events at the park cost us more money and aggravation.Laws are not enforced.There is also the other village ammenities here that cost us more money.SO DO you think that boat race was free For the home owners?

Nice boats and an exciting time, except for the 2 in the boat that flipped (very sad and unfortunate)...but you deliver a very informative report of all the rule-bending? for a commercial event where the residents are totally inconvenienced. And to think spectators were being charged $50 each to sit in the stands at the public park at Mascot Dock. unreal! Thanks..

Had a great time there last weekend, we did well in our race. Great to see the people enjoying themselves. Fantastic race site and the conditions were perfect this year.

Patchogue is a tough spot all year!Like Archie Bunkers Hood!1 or 2 events all year poor guy move east!Did we kill the clams too!LOL

It brought smiles on every home town person! I know the bands the people the vendors all did well! People came by land or sea to watch air shows & boat race!It's great Long Island has events like this but downers want it stopped??? These are the same people who's dog craps on your lawn or peep around and dial on his own friends!!Don't be a player hater the new generation knows how the system works!Get a hobby of your own nobodys breaking any laws Mr Downer peace out!
