Ive had my Harman pellet stove for three years now and you CANNOT touch the top or you will get burned. Even on the lowest setting. It should not be said as being safe because you WILL get burned. If the stove is barely trickling along ready to go out maybe but not with anything above that. Just dont want to see anyone take your post the wrong way!!

Have you ever cooked on it. It's fun. Use a frying pan though, easier clean up. You can also simmer potpourri or vanilla sticks or cinnamon or any other spice that smells good. The steam also serves as a humidifier on dry, cold days.

You do have the best wood stove ever made. They don't make e'm any better than a Harman. A wood stove isn't a furnace. A furnace is heavily insulated and operates on forced air through duct work. I hope my explanation helps.

We find it to be the most wonderful heat we've ever had in our home. It's so comfortable. The warn heat is just like the wood heat from a fireplace without the mess. We have the Harman power converter and when the power goes out here in the Appalachian Mountains we stay warm and cozy. I can't begin to tell you how nice this stove is to us. We've never cooked on it. It doesn't get hot enough on the surface. You can touch the top it's very safe about 140F.
