  • And this is a 6th dan?? Barely a first kyu!

  • shrugs

  • This kata is so cooked that I am apt to believe that the dictionay term Ganmen, meaning stomach is a much more practical try!

  • not sure about the real meaning of the word "ganmen", but the coded form of the kata says the first strike is to be aimed approximatively at the attacker's forehead.

    or so i've been told.

    thanks for the comment :)

  • I agree a head thrust is the way it is taught and what you must do in a Shinza, but in praxis that's so blatent it's impossible to get away with! As a result the thing looks like a mere string of randum waza than a true kata.

  • yes, you're totally right.

seitei katas (at least how they're practiced here in italy) sadly often look too rigid and "empty" to be passed for actual combat.

  • the foot shouldnt be dragged during the tsuki, there is movement in the foot as you will see in many 8th dan embu taikai but i wouldnt advocate the use of "drag"

  • Unlikely that this is roku-dan! Perhaps ni-dan, but not 1-kyu..

One huge error is when preparing to turn around and stab, in the turning action, not to completely turn the heel straight back.

But still good Iaido! Very good control, etc..!

  • this is due to the fact that seitei iaido is influenced by kendo. in the original kata this dragging does not exist.

  • His precision is admirable. One interesting thing I've noticed in this particular video is that he is dragging his foot when cutting and stabbing as if he's doing okuri-ashi.

  • I think this is one of a few "real" iaido you can find on youtube.

  • No kime, no expression. Is this iaido or sleeping-do?

  • Ganmen is not stomach my friend. It means face, but for Iai it refers to the middle part between the two eyes that's Hachihonme for. Stomach? wow it's Hara, like Harakiri, cut the stomach ha ha.

In Japan it's not wise to comment on somebody's waza higher than you, even if yoy're sure that they're poor
