Review of the Boogiepop movie, based off the 1st novel in the series of spooky and interesting events. A superior anime version takes place after this film, but this film answers some questions for fans of the anime.

For more information on this movie and the anime, it is being distributed by Right Stuf International:

The books are being translated by Seven Seas.

  • do u have 2 watch this movie to understand the anime

  • not really. it fills in a few plot points, but really only for the hardcore fans. The anime is fine on its own. (but knowledge of the movies and the original books adds some added fan service for the viewer)

  • I got interested it the anime, yet at the end I felt like I was left hanging, so I started to read the books. I watched the anime through again I it was much more enjoyable; I had a sence of what was going on. The franchise in general has opened my mind to the world around me. I started with it when I was only 13 and it helped me mature among fellow students, and now I am working on a book at a very early age. I reccomend the entire franchise to anyone wanting to expand their concience.

  • glad to find another boogiepop fan. I think the anime and the books are pure pieces of finely crafted art, and i totally agree with you. I finally found a shop here that sells the original japanese books, so i'm hoping once my japanese improves from all this studying i'll be able to read them in their original text one day!

  • i love the Anime!!!!...im the biggest fan of anime ever!!!

  • excellent, yeah that is probably my single most favorite anime ever. 'you'll never be young twice' being my favorite episode haha.

  • dude it sucks that this guys dead, r.i.p. man you rock

  • @badazz5001 Well I watched the anime first since the movie had not been out yet. For me the movie just clarified things from the anime.

  • well you can't blame them it is a low budget anime and live action

  • dude.. smart review.

  • i miss this guy man

  • the anime was a great thing to experience. It's sad to hear that the movie itself was pretty substandard. But look on the bright site, an american Production would likely of done it worse despite higher production values.

  • I finally got to check this one out. Swan's review was right on the mark.

  • Its mawnga.

  • good review.... ill have to watch the ne me...

  • i guess so, but they ruined higurashi. the anime was the most awesome anime known to earth (that and Hellsing Ultimate) but the film ruined it completely , and i was really looking forward to it. but i must admit , some real-life dramas are ok^^
