They believe that the world shifts into new cycles, 2012 being one of them, but in these cycles the world doesnt end nor does it blow up it simply goes on as normal. The mayans believe that every cycle is a new beginning, and thats where people think they mean the earth is going to end when simply they are saying that on 2012 a new cycle will begin

Out of question predictions such as a person saying in 2023 Venus will turn purple now that will most definitely not happen, now that is an example of what I'm talking about.
