Really.... I don't think Kurt would be against any one listening to his music. Especially people who like the music so much they make a cover band. I think Kurt would much rather people be respectful and non-judgmental towards all other fellow human beings, regardless of how they wear a hat. However, thats just my opinion, man.
RIP Kurt. Sorry for people who put words in your mouth.
