This modern day North-East England branch-line stretches from the market town of Bishop Auckland to Darlington, with its East-Coast main line station, and is part of the old famous 'Stockton and Darlington Railway', which opened in 1825. It also features the three-quarters-of-a-mile long 'Prince of Wales' Shildon tunnel, opened in 1842, which is the oldest railway tunnel, still in-use under a settlement, in the world.
