The entire issue with me is: they don't want people to have sex -- and yet, their "god" created sex, and the only way to create more "little believers" is to HAVE sex, unless someone would choose in-vitro, and many Christians argue that even THAT is wrong because it's "not how god intended, blah blah blah." You can't win. They force abstinence-only on the youth to shame them: if you have sex outside of marriage and if something bad happens to you, you deserve it. You don't deserve care.
@bloodngutspatriot Part 2: That's what moderate atheists, like myself, want (Lemon test). Secularist government--neither promoting/giving special treatment nor inhibiting religious RIGHTS not privileges. Ex: leaving creationism/intelligent design out of classrooms and in effect not forcing evolution to be taught in church. Another example would be holding parents legally accountable for opting out of medical attention in favor of faith healing which endangers their children.
@bloodngutspatriot Part 1: Then I agree with you over this, for Christianity has always played a major role in American culture and gave courage to the revolutionists. I won't argue there, but if both atheists and Christians are to argue what principles they're discussing, the principles themselves have to be clearly defined.
@bloodngutspatriot Part 2: Nonetheless this is an appeal to authority. John Adam states, "I BELIEVE" and in the quotation he is argue Jefferson over a schism felt in federalism vs "anti-federalism". Both Christians and Atheists alike have done this. I won't argue about many of the founders being Christian, yet many founders were also slaveholders. Does this mean the US was founded in limiting rights to certain people? To clarify, I have to ask what Christian principles are we arguing over?
@bloodngutspatriot Part 1: Again, you took something out. John Adams also included the "principles of English and American liberty." John Adams lists a full range of different religious and politicals beliefs/philosophies. He argued how in relativity the patriots fought united in Christianity. Yes, I understand the majority of the colonists were Christian, and that's what he argues. That they felt a unification in religion.
@bloodngutspatriot Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States doesn't state the US is a Christian nation in practice but in population. Plus, the John Adams quotation is quote-mining and not the complete quote--far from it. Look it up. IF the US is a Christian nation in the sense of practice, then we wouldn't have freedom of religion. The 2nd commandment states to have no other deity except Yahweh.
@guasto47 Religion should be illegal. People who practice religion should go to prison. That would be the law in a rational society. Unfortunately society is not rational.
Of course it's the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy/STD's, but doesn't work for everyone.
It's better to learn about condoms and other birth control measures than to have a bunch of unwanted children. You can't bury your head in sand and assume quoting the Bible or banning sex ed can overcome hormones and sexual urges.
If abstinence is the only 100% proof way to prevent pregnancy, what the fuck happened to Jesus' mother?

My thoughts on abstinence-only policies:
Of course it's the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy/STD's, but doesn't work for everyone.
It's better to learn about condoms and other birth control measures than to have a bunch of unwanted children. You can't bury your head in sand and assume quoting the Bible or banning sex ed can overcome hormones and sexual urges.
