Arranged Marriage

Demi's POV
I was sitting in my room, talking about mom's behavior these past few days, with my sister, Selena. I was slightly older than her by a year and a half. Eighteen months. We share everything with each other. And today, we were sharing our thoughts about our mom.

Demi: She's been acting a bit strange these past few days. You know what's up? *Bites the pickle slice*
Selena: No clue. *She didn't even look up from her bowl of ice cream, and shoved a spoonful into her mouth*
Demi: She's been spending more time out than usual. Like, having secret meetings?
Selena: *About to eat another spoonful, but stops as she catches on to what Demi is saying* You dont mean to say...?
Demi: I do. I have a hunch, I just hope I'm wrong. REALLY wrong. *She looks at a picture of her dad, her mom, Selena and herself looking very happy*

My father died three months ago. My family used to be very rich. My dad ran three businesses and kept them at the top for 7 years. But along with wealth, comes danger. There was a shootout in one of the buildings, and my dad happened to be one of the ones who did get shot. And from the loss of our father, we have suffered so much. Our business went down, and now we are at the very bottom. In these three months, we have borrowed so much money, we are highly in dept. My mom is having to work five jobs just to pay people back. Selena and I can't work, because we already get so much from school. Its 12:15 AM, and we are still working on homework since 4. Soon, we'll have to drop out because we cannot keep up, and my mom isn't being able to either. We're missing so many school days. But, I hope we won't ever have to face that day, or I won't be able to get into a good college, and help out my family. Ever.

Selena: I guess we should get to bed now. It's almost 12:30.
Demi: What? *Pauses* Oh. Right. Goodnight Selena.
Selena: *Fake smiles, seeing the pain in Demis eyes* Yeah, goodnight.

Next morning, walking into school.

Demi: *Putting books into locker, and pulling out specific ones for her next class. [Random conversation]* I didn't get it either. Just ask Miley for help. Government is her thing.
Selena: *Giggles* Wow Demi...
Demi: What? You know it's true! I mean, come on! Have you seen her- *Cut off because Joe was walking by with a group of his friends, and flicks her off, smirking. She turns to Selena, angry. Through gritted teeth* I. Hate. Him. So much. To a level you cant even comprehend.
Selena: *Glances at him* Forget him. He's an ass.
Demi: He's just so...! It's nerve-racking trying to deal with him.
Selena: It's okay, Dems! Calm down! *Looks over and sees Nick smiling at her. She smiles back, and he winks, making her blush*
Demi: *Follows Selena's gaze, and sees what's going on. She smiles and slightly waves, and he waves back. She turns back around to face Selena* I see... *Bites the corner of her lower lip* So Nick, huh?
Selena: Oh, hush! Don't act like you didn't know! *Shuts her locker; they start walking*
Demi: Why don't you just ask him out? He's niceee, sweeeet, caringggg! *Monotone [like, a boring tone in her voice]* Total opposite of his brother.
Selena: Oh, come on Demi. Don't act like you don't know what the atmosphere at home is like. Especially at this point in life.
Demi: *Sighs* Good point. *Bell rings* Alright, I'll see you later.
Selena: Alright, bye.
Demi: Bye.
