It's a shame people believe that. The US and Great Britain were mostly libertarian in the 1800s. They developed more quickly than their neighbors and cut poverty rates more swiftly. Andrew Carnegie alone drove down steel prices by 90% in 25 years, which made EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD cheaper and EVERYONE more prosperous. And despite the lack of controls, corporations weren't steamrolling small competitors; without complex regulations barring market entry, small business often outcompeted the big.

Peter Schiff warned of our current financial meltdown repeatedly, Fox News brought him on air all the time to be the kooky naysayer. If you want a candidate with economic sense and rational explanations, endorse Ron Paul.
