Over 300 concerned Tweed Valley residents expressed their opposition on May 28th, 2009 to the proposal to hold a leg of the World Rally Championships in the Tweed and Kyogle areas.

The rally is proposed to run in September 2009 and every second year for up to 20 years.

    Race organisers have now conceded that the rock attack claims were based on a second-hand account from a spectator, and no cars were struck by rocks on Friday.

    "There was never any evidence that cars were hit by rocks on that day," said Garry Connolly, the chairman of the race organising committee.
