*they get in the car*
Joe: Did you write that song?
Demi: Yeah. *embaressed* I was hoping you wouldnt come in.
Joe: *hes a little hurt* Why? It was wonderful.
Demi: Thats why. I never like playing or singing my stuff in front of people I know. I can at least get an honest opinion from people I dont know, and I dont have to worry about what happens if I mess up.
Joe: *he frowns* Thats one way of putting it, but I was giving you an honest opinion. And if you messed up, so what? Even proffesionals do, its no big deal. Besides, Friends are supposed to support you, not make fun of you for messing up.
Demi: *she looks at him* The only person I know who would support me is selena. I mean, I screw up enough as it is.
Joe: *gets the feeling shes talking more about just guitar playing and singing. He resists the urge to say that hed be there for her whenever he needed, instead he says* What about your boyfriend?
Demi: Oh. Zac. Hes um, Nice.
Joe: *he frowns again* Nice? You mean hes not even willing to support his girlfriend, nice?
Demi: *gets frustrated* Look, I already get crap like this from Selena, I dont need it from you. I barely even know you.
*they ride in silence for a minute*
Joe: *thinks for a minute then says* Im sorry Demi, it wasnt my place.
Demi: *shes holding back tears* Its ok.
Joe: *he pulls up to her house* But if you ever need a friend, you know where to find me. *he gets out and walks around to the other side getting out her guitar as Demi gets out of the car too.*
Demi: *she looks down trying to hide her tears*
Joe: *turns to face her and notices shes crying* Demi? *he says concerned*
Demi: *looks up, tears rolling down her face*
Joe: *doesnt know what to do for a minute, and then puts down her guitar and wraps Demi in a hug, and whispers* its ok.
Demi: *she just leans in to him feeling comforted for the first time in a long time*
Joe: *after a minute he pulls away* You ok?
Demi: *wipes her face* Yeah. Sorry.
Joe: *hands her her guitar looking her in the eyes* Anytime. *he starts to get in his car*
Demi: Joe wait!
Joe: *he looks back at her* Yeah?
Demi: I... Thanks.
Joe: *smiles at her warmly* What are friends for?
Demi: *Smiles at him greatfully and goes into the house*
Joe: *drives across the street to his house and goes in, bumping in to Kevin*
Kevin; Hey, I got great News! *he sees Joes somewhat worried look and says* Whats wrong?
Joe: Nothing. Whats the great news.
Kevin: You know bad news always comes first. *he looks across the street then back at Joe* Its her isnt it.
Joe: Yeah. Im sorta worried about her.
Kevin: Maybe She just needs some space. I mean you did just meet for the first time. Well, almost.
Joe: *gives him a look* I think what she needs is a friend.
Kevin: Isnt Selena like her Bff?
Joe: Yeah, but I think she needs a guy friend too. From what I see her Boyfriends a jerk, and her dad whos never around probably is too.
Kevin: Joe, you probably shouldnt get too involved.
Joe: *stubbornly* Why not? It doesnt make any sense.
Kevin: Oh yeah? Well picture this. You get really close to this girl. You become really great friends. Heck she may even fall for you and dump the jerk boyfriend. Then she finds out about everything and boom, two broken hearts, and shes got even more crap to worry about.
Joe: *frustrated* yeah, well thats not gonna happen! *he sighs and runs his hand through his hair* Sorry. So whats the good news?
Kevin: I got a gig back home.
Joe: Awesome! Youll get to see mom and dad. And danielle.
Kevin: I know. It should be fun. You guys are gonna be here alone for a while.
Joe: No sweat. when do you leave?
Kevin: next week, tuesday.
Joe: A week before we start school.
Kevin: Yeah. Ill probably be gone for at least 2 weeks though, so you guys arent going to be able to complain about school to anyone. *he grins*
Joe: *glares* Stop Gloating.
Kevin: Fine.
Joe: *starts to go inside*
Kevin: *stops him* Hey Joe?
Joe: yeah?
Kevin: Really, think about what I said.
Joe: *looks away from Kevin but nods*
Kevin: Ok. *lets joe Go* Oh and By the way, If you see Selena walking by here later tell Nick. Im pretty sure Hes got his heart set on driving her to work again. *he laughs and walks away*
Joe: *smiles, but when Kevins gone it turns into a wince* Great.
*with Demi*
Demi: *shes on the phone with Selena*
Selena: Aw, he drove you home? So sweet!
Demi: *decides not to tell her about what happened when he dropped her off* I guess.
Selena: So Tell me again why your not Dumping Zac?
Demi: I cant just dump him. I love Zac. *she realizes how unconcinving she sounded*
Selena: Uhuh. You keep telling yourself that. Demi You need someone who actually cares about you not some dip like Zac.
Demi: *thinking back to Joe* Maybe Your right.
